Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and south Dakota auctions for the week ending Feb. 9, totaled 4,420 head, compared to 3,800 head last week and 7,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold generally steady. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trading slow with a few comparable steer sales were steady to $2 higher. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 74% of the supply, heifers 26%, with 52% offerings over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1420 head of the total receipts.
