Springfield livestock salesThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,000 head Feb. 6, compared to 1,486 head last week and 2,578 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher. Holsteins were not well tested, with only a couple drafts in the offerings, one being steers averaging 638 pounds and being very high quality steers. The feeder supply was light this week, due in part to heavy rains causing flooding followed by a touch of winter weather providing some light snow and ice to the area. Several of last week's top prices were not met this week due to offerings being made up of mostly small drafts or individual sales of average quality feeders. Feeder demand remains good as buyers look to build inventory. The supply was made up of 54% steers, 38% heifers, 2% Holstein steers, and 6% bulls, with nearly 50% of the offering was over 600 pounds.
