Sheep shearing day set Feb. 23Colorado The Colorado Wool Growers Association is sponsoring a sheep shearing day hosted by the Weld County Extension Service at Island Grove Park in Greeley Feb. 23. The shearing will be held from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., with the gates to unload sheep opening at 7:30 a.m., and closing at 3 p.m., to be able to finish shearing by 5 p.m. There is no setup or handling fee, the cost is $5 per head for Colorado Wool Growers members, $8 per head for non-members, and rams will cost double ($10 for member and $16 for non-members). Bob Woodbury will buy your wool if you wish to sell at that time, if not bring sacks to collect your wool after shearing. No appointment is necessary, but a call ahead of time would be appreciated to provide an idea of the number and type of sheep. Information will be available on sheep production, diseases, nutrition, reproduction, and wool handling and preparation from organizations such as Colorado State University Extension, Colorado Wool Growers, and the American Sheep Industry Association. Michael Jarosz, Weld County Livestock Agent and John Bartmann, Colorado Wool Growers past-president and experienced sheep producer will be available to help answer questions about sheep production. Everyone is welcome, if you have sheep to shear bring them, if you want to talk about sheep, the industry, or the organizations that represent them, come on down. 2/18/08 Date: 2/13/08
