Sheep killed in Buckingham barn fire

BUCKINGHAM, Iowa (AP)--A barn fire killed several sheep near Buckingham early Feb. 11, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the barn south of Waterloo about 5:30 a.m.

The barn's owner, Louis Beck, said he received a call from a relative that the barn was on fire.

He said the barn housed newborn lambs and sheep that were about to give birth. At least six sheep were in the barn at the time, he said.

One had given birth to lambs over the weekend. Another was to give birth this week, he said.

He called the loss "devastating."

Beck said insurance will cover his losses.
