OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,048 head Feb. 13, compared to 2,595 head last week and 2,414 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $2 to $4 higher. Feeder heifers were $1 to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. Steer calves were $4 to $8 higher. Heifer calves were $2 to $4 higher. Demand was very good for grazing cattle and calves. Exceptional quality with load after load of black cattle off wheat or rye pastures. Feeder cattle in medium to fleshy conditions with gaunt to full weigh-ups. The supply included 79% over 600 pounds, 16% under 600 pounds, 5% cows and bulls. The total run included 38% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $1 higher. Packer demand remains good. A total of 280 cows and bulls sold with 56% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 50 head, 1350 to 2250 lbs., 65.00 to 66.50; high dressing, 68.00 to 73.50; low dressing, 58.50 to 64.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 975 to 1050 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 910.00 to 920.00; 3 years old, 1150 lbs., 7 months bred, average blacks, 1000.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 840.00 to 920.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, average quality, 740.00 to 810.00; 9 to 10 years old, 950 to 1000 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 500.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 2 years old, 950 lbs., with 275-lb. calves, average blacks, 1235.00; 6 years old, 1000 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 175-lb. calves, average quality, 1000.00; 7 to 9 years old, 950 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, average quality, 840.00 to 880.00.
