Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 751 head Feb. 7, compared to 441 head last week and 660 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold $3 to $4 lower. Feeder lamb trends were not applicable due to no comparable sales available. Receipts were comprised of about 47 feeder lambs, 29% slaughter ewes and bucks with the balance bred ewes. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 168 head, 175 lbs., 23.75. Good 3 to 4, 16 head, 213 lbs., 17.50. Utility 1 to 2, 14 head, 154 lbs., 20.25. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 51 head, 68 lbs., 109.75; 73 to 75 lbs., 109.00 to 110.50 (109.55); 13 head, 72 lbs., 101.50 blackface; 40 head, 75 lbs., 112.00 new crop; 91 to 98 lbs., 100.75 to 103.25 (101.20); 103 to 109 lbs., 96.50 to 100.25 (98.67); 5 head, 116 lbs., 91.00 fleshy. Medium frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 52 lbs., 105.50. Slaughter bucks: Medium and large frame frame 1 to 2, 26 head, 237 lbs., 18.00 medium to fleshy. Bred ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 152 head, 2 to 4 years old, lamb feb. 15, 172 lbs., 118.00 per head; 25 head, short term, lamb March 23, 153 lbs., 60.00 per head. 2/18/08 Date: 2/14/08
