Mike Van Eaton recieves 2008 Oklahoma Pork Council Ambassador Award

Oklahoma

At the 49th Annual Oklahoma Pork Congress, Feb. 8, the Oklahoma Pork Council proudly presented Mike Van Eaton with the 2008 OPC Ambassador Award.

Van Eaton, a resident of Holdenville, has been incredibly active in locating the pork industry in the area and keeping it there. When Tyson was locating in the area, he worked at the Wes Watkins Vo-Tech and was very active in helping producers assess the benefits of becoming a part of the pork industry.

"Mike has always been an effective businessman and was trying to help people in the area when encouraging them to consider the pork industry," said Karen Brewer, Okemah pork producer. "He helped on anything from looking over personal finances to applying for the bank loans."

As the industry continued to develop, Van Eaton put in a feed floor operation and started his own business selling replacement parts for feeders, curtain machines, feed bins and other pork production equipment. He then put in a cement plant in Holdenville, to make hog slats, and now has a cement plant in Shawnee as well.

"The Oklahoma Pork Council is appreciative of the support Mike has given to Oklahoma's pork industry over the years," said Roy Lee Lindsey, Oklahoma Pork Council Executive Director. "We are proud to honor him with our Ambassador Award."
