Faith livestock sales report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 2,239 head Feb. 11, compared to 1,850 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder cattle trends are not applicable due to no comparable sale last auction. Feeder cows, slaughter cows and bulls were not well tested, however a higher undertone was noted. Demand was good for all classes. Heifers suitable for replacements sold mostly on a per head basis. Feeder cattle were comprised of 35% steers; 65% heifers with 90% of total cattle over 600 pounds. The total receipts were comprised of about 93% feeder and replacement heifers, 5% bred cows and heifers, 1% feeder cows with the balance mostly slaughter cows and bulls.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 445 lbs., 129.00; 514 to 543 lbs., 128.00 to 130.00 (128.46) 565 to 598 lbs., 123.50 to 128.50 (124.52); 618 to 646 lbs., 109.75 to 113.50 (111.14) calves; 655 to 694 lbs., 109.00 to 113.75 (111.44) calves; 704 to 726 lbs., 106.75 to 108.50 (107.12) calves; 774 to 782 lbs., 101.75 to 102.00 (101.81); 904 to 905 lbs., 94.00 to 95.00 (94.83). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 628 lbs., 108.75; 13 head, 611 lbs., 112.75 calves; 717 to 730 lbs., 107.60. Large frame 1, 16 head, 898 lbs., 91.25.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 482 lbs., 113.50; 525 to 530 lbs., 109.75 to 112.00 (111.07); 581 to 594 lbs., 105.00 to 108.00 (107.53); 603 to 645 lbs., 103.75 to 106.25 (105.31) calves; 602 to 639 lbs., 640.00 to 670.00 (650.25) per head; 656 to 693 lbs., 97.50 to 103.00 (100.84) calves; 653 to 697 lbs., 680.00 to 740.00 (708.76) per head; 14 head, 713 lbs., 96.00; 700 to 737 lbs., 730.00 to 750.00 (745.26) per head; 759 to 794 lbs., 91.00 to 95.00 (91.95); 761 to 785 lbs., 760.00 to 885.00 (823.91) per head. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 529 to 541 lbs., 104.75 to 108.25 (106.32); 9 head, 640 lbs., 104.00 calves; 36 head, 623 lbs., 750.00 per head; 10 head, 699 lbs., 99.50 calves. Large frame 1, 38 head, 896 lbs., 87.25.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes, 1030 to 1160 lbs., 75.00 to 76.00; young, 1095 to 1200 lbs., 57.50 to 59.00; middle aged, 1060 to 1350 lbs., 53.00 to 55.75. Large frame 1, 1395 to 1690 lbs 54.00 to 55.25.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1135 to 1600 lbs., 54.25; high dressing, 56.00; low dressing, 50.25 to 51.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 48.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 46.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1585 to 1930 lbs., 60.50 to 62.50; high dressing, 68.25 to 71.50.

Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1, bred black, calve March 20, price per head, 99 head, 1050 to 1100 lbs., black-black whiteface 1100.00 to 1200.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred black charolais, calve March 15, price per head, 15 head, 1556 lbs., solid, black-black whiteface 935.00; 18 head, 1480 lbs., broken, black-black whiteface 780.00.
