Wheat Board announces openingNebraska The Nebraska Wheat Development, Utilization and Marketing Board announce an opening in District #2 for appointment by Governor Dave Heineman. The term of office begins on July 1 and is for a term of five years. District #2 represents the counties of Banner, Kimball and Cheyenne. Any wheat producer interested in the appointment may submit his or her name to the Governor's office for consideration. Qualified individuals residing in any of the mentioned counties will be eligible. Interested producers can write to Peggy King, Office of Governor Dave Heineman, P.O. Box 94848, Lincoln, NE 68509-4848, or call 402/471-1971 to obtain an application. You may also submit an application online at www.nebraska.govs or through the Nebraska Wheat Board office. Applications are due in the Governor's office by June 1. Qualified candidates include those who are citizens of Nebraska, are at least 21 years of age, have been actively engaged in growing wheat in this state for a period of at least five years, and derive a substantial portion of their income from growing wheat. Seven wheat producers comprise the Wheat Board and serve terms of five years. The Wheat Board administers the one and one quarter cent per bushel checkoff levied on wheat marketed in Nebraska. The Board traditionally invests the funds in programs of international and domestic market development and improvement, policy development, research, promotion and education.
