Western Farm Show comes to KC in February

The Western Farm Show opens its doors for the 47th time at 9 a.m., Feb. 22. The 2008 Western Farm Show will start on a Friday for the first time, and runs through Feb. 24, at the American Royal Complex in Kansas City, Mo.

The Western Farm Show is the Midwest's best farm show, and features everything from the latest equipment, feed, seed and more. This year, the show is focused on the "Heritage of the Past and the Promise of the Future" for agriculture.

"The Western Farm Show has something for everyone interested in agriculture in the Midwest," says Jeff Flora, CEO, SouthWestern Association. "You'll find the latest in farm and livestock equipment and resources for large-scale operations, and there will also be plenty of useful information and materials for lifestyle or hobby farmers or small land owners. And the Family Living Center provides useful products for the entire family."

Admission to the show is $7, and children under 12 get in free. To obtain a coupon for $3 off admission, go to your participating SouthWestern Association dealer or retailer. For a list of participating SouthWestern Association dealers, visit www.westernfarmshow.coms.

In 2007, the Western Farm Show featured more than 500 exhibitors, who occupied the entire American Royal Complex. That's more than 400,000 square feet of floor space, filled with the latest in everything from tractors to livestock equipment, feed, seed and more.

This year, the show features educational seminars that will affect producers now and into the future. Seminars are available Feb. 22 only. Larry Murphy, Ph.D., Murphy Agro, will discuss the "Outlook on Fertilizer" at 1:30 p.m. This seminar will discuss the current fertilizer situation in the United States and new technologies available to help fertilizer efficiency.

Mark Leitman, Propane Education & Research Council will speak on "Beyond Heat: Propane Powers Innovation" at 2:20 p.m. Propane provides efficient and reliable energy for numerous applications in your home and on the farm. During this session, hear more about new propane technology to improve the productivity of farm operations and other businesses.

Rick Shanks, National Managing Director of Aon Agribusiness and Food System Group will discuss "Emerging Risks to Agriculture and the Food System" at 3:15 p.m. Providing a safe and secure food system has created risk management demands requiring new risk transfer, control and finance solutions. This seminar will discuss current risk management initiatives, emerging risk exposures and the "new world of risk" challenging agribusinesses in the food system.

PERC and Specialty Fertilizer Products are the primary sponsors of the 2008 Western Farm Show. PERC promotes the safe, efficient use of odorized propane gas as a preferred energy source through investments in research, safety and consumer initiatives. SFP is a research and development company dedicated to solving fertilizer inefficiencies, with products like AVAIL for phosphorus fertilizers and Nutri-Sphere-N, a nitrogen manager introduced this summer.
