St. Onge livestock sales

The St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 469 head Feb. 1, compared to 1,137 head last week and 266 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle were not well tested. Feeder cows sold $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter cows sold $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls sold steady to $1 higher. Demand was moderate to good. Feeder steers comprised 100% of the run, with 26% over 600 pounds. Receipts included about 5% feeder cattle, 52% feeder cows, 11% slaughter cows and bulls, 30% bred cattle with balance miscellaneous cattle.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 513 lbs., 120.00; 5 head, 661 lbs., 105.00 calves. Medium and large frame 2, 9 head, 477 lbs., 103.00.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes 800 to 1075 lbs., 77.00 to 88.00; young 1000 to 1050 lbs., 65.00 to 74.00; middle aged, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 51.00 to 55.00; aged, 1025 to 1350 lbs., 48.00 to 50.75. Large frame 1, 1400 to 1550 lbs., 49.00 to 52.00, few 54.00 to 55.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1585 to 1885 lbs., 50.50 to 51.50; low dressing, 47.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1185 to 1690 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 52.50; low dressing, 46.00 to 49.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1275 lbs., 48.25 to 49.75; low dressing, 45.00 to 46.00; 950 to 1000 lbs., 45.00 to 46.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1500 to 2200 lbs., 59.50 to 61.75; low dressing, 56.00 to 57.75.

Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1, bred black, calve February to April, price per head, 28 head, 1040 to 1075 lbs., black-black whiteface 1035.00 to 1200.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred black-red, calve March to May, price per head, 1000 to 1125 lbs., 3 to 4 years old, black-black whiteface 1075.00 to 1210.00; 20 head, 1250 to 1450 lbs., 4 to 8 years old, black-black whiteface/red 725.00 to 875.00; 11 head, 1270 to 1360 lbs., broken, black-black whiteface 625.00 to 680.00.
