Springfield cattle sales report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,486 head Jan. 30, compared to 1,387 head last week and 2,500 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers traded $5 to $7 higher with instances of $10 higher on steers under 500 pounds. Feeder heifers sold $2 to $4 higher, and Holstein steers were steady to $2 higher on a light test. Even in light of high input costs, from feed to fertilizer, the feeder market has gained some footing the past few weeks, for the first time all winter.
