Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 388 head of sheep and goats Feb. 4, compared to 576 head last week and 196 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, due in part to weather related light receipts, wooled slaughter lambs and wooled slaughter ewes too few for an accurate trend, however a higher undertone was noted. No comparable sales on feeder lambs. Demand was good to very good, light run with much of the trade area waking up to $2 to $4 inches of snow. Slaughter ewes comprised 32% of the run, feeder lambs 29% and slaughter lambs 28%, the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.
