Pork chops, brisket main fare at New Mexico Ag ExpoNew Mexico The New Mexico Ag Expo, Feb. 26 and 27, sponsored by Plateau Wireless and Farmers Paxton Insurance Agency, will delight spectators and vendors alike with their annual pork chops lunch, sponsored by the Portales Rotary Club, and a brisket lunch prepared by Bum Steer BBQ of Portales. The pork chop lunch will be Feb. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The brisket lunch will be Feb. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Both lunches will be in the Sheep Barn. The Portales Rotary Club will be serving smoked pork chops this year to raise money mainly for the Rotary scholarship fund. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased from any Portales Rotary member, the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce or at the door. The Chuck Wagon Lunch is Rotary's biggest fund raiser of the year. Last year, the club served steaks with more than 600 people attending. According to Scott Davis, a committee member, the club's members work hard putting on the lunch. Besides the members who cook, two will work the door, six or seven will be serving and four or five will be cleaning tables. "This year we will be serving our pork chops throughout Portales; so, if people will get their tickets and let us know, we will be happy to deliver," Davis said. An addition to this year's show is a brisket lunch, Feb. 27, served by Bum Steer BBQ. The briskets, after being smoked for over 12 hours, will be served with all the usual fixin's for $10. Randy Small plans to split the proceeds of the lunch between the Portales High School boys basketball team and the poultry division at the Roosevelt County Fair.
