Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 441 head of sheep Jan. 31, compared to 189 head last week and 1,251 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, trends were not applicable due to limited receipts last week. Receipts were comprised of about 5% feeder lambs, 94% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 230 head, 167 lbs., 29.25. Good 3 to 4, 47 head, 183 lbs., 30.00; 21 head, 227 lbs., 19.75. Utility 1 to 2, 19 head, 148 lbs., 25.00. Cull 1, 40 head, 135 lbs., 9.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 18 head, 85 lbs., 106.50
