Heimsoth earns NJAA Bronze, Silver AwardsEmelia Heimsoth, Lathrop, Mo., has earned the National Junior Angus Association's (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association in Saint Joseph, Mo. Heimsoth is the 17-year-old daughter of Scott and Rebecca Heimsoth and attends Lathrop High School. She is active in the NJAA and the Missouri Junior Angus Associations. Heimsoth has shown her Angus cattle and competed in showmanship at numerous shows on the local, state and national levels. She has entered the NJAA photography contest at the National Junior Angus Show and attended the national Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference and Raising the Bar Officer Training. A member since 2003, Heimsoth has enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR) program. The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in the areas of NJAA activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle. The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide. 2/11/08 Date: 2/1/08
