Speakers at 2008 Missouri Livestock Symposium to emphasize forages as key to profits

Missouri

According to Garry Mathes, chair of the Missouri Livestock Symposium committee, "feed prices may be high but opportunity still exists for profits if forages are utilized efficiently and smartly. This year we wanted talks that emphasized forages, given the economics of our industries."

The Missouri Livestock Symposium will feature speakers from 16 states and Canada, a sold out trade show, and big time entertainment featuring John Anderson. Hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Dec. 5, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 6. The event is held at the Kirksville Middle School, 1515 South Cottage Grove, Kirksville, Mo.

Information and speakers provide practical and useful ideas and knowledge on horses, beef cattle, sheep, meat goats, stock dogs, renewable energies, and more. To get more details about specific topics and speakers go to http://missourilivestocksymposium.com or call 660-665-9866. You can also e-mail lanen@missouri.edu and put MLS in the subject line.

Forages section speakers this year include Dr. Dave Davis of the Forages System Research Center in Linneus, Missouri; Dr. Rob Kallenbach, University of Missouri-Columbia; Dr. Garry Lacefield, University of Kentucky; Mark Kennedy, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service; Dr. David Bransby, Auburn University, Alabama; and Bill Cook of Elmer, Mo.

According to Mathes, producers serious about their bottom lines will not want to miss these talks and hear these experts. Talks will range from "Ten Ideas for 365 Days of Grazing" to the latest research findings which should make attending the Symposium time well spent.

The Missouri Livestock Symposium is open to all and is absolutely free. No pre-registration is required and there are even some free meals! The only cost associated with the Missouri Livestock Symposium is John Anderson Concert tickets which are on sale and are sold on a first-come, first serve basis. Ticket availability and information can be found by calling 660-665-9866.
