Lawrence named to USDA advisory committee

Iowa

John Lawrence, Iowa State University Extension livestock economist and economics professor, has been appointed to the Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics by U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer.

The committee advises the secretary and the National Agricultural Statistics Service on the conduct of agricultural censuses and surveys. It consists of 25 members serving two-year terms who represent varied agricultural disciplines and interests.

Lawrence joined the Iowa State faculty in July 1991. He has served as director of the Iowa Beef Center since 1998.

He was raised on a crop-livestock farm in southwest Iowa and earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Iowa State in animal science and economics, respectively. Lawrence earned a doctorate in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri in 1989.
