Chandler takes new leadership position with AgriLife ExtensionTexas Dr. Galen Chandler won't be leaving Amarillo, but he will be transferring from his current position as Texas AgriLife Extension Service District I administrator to North Region program director for agricultural and natural services, according to a recent announcement. Chandler makes this move in the wake of Dr. Darrell Dromgoole moving from the North Region program to be a part of AgriLife Extension's senior leadership team in College Station, said Dr. Ed Smith, director of AgriLife Extension in College Station. Smith said Chandler also will serve as an interim district administrator until the position can be filled. "Galen's leadership in this capacity will be very productive and progressive, and I appreciate his willingness to serve," Smith said. Chandler has been with AgriLife Extension for 28 years, moving to the Amarillo area from his position as District 3 administrator in Vernon. Chandler, a native of Irving, earned a bachelor's degree in animal science from Texas A&M University in 1980; a master's degree in science-teaching from Tarleton State University; and a doctorate of agricultural education from Texas A&M and Texas Tech University. He began his professional career in 1980 as an assistant agriculture agent in Atascosa County. Chandler also served as an AgriLife Extension agriculture agent in Comanche, Wise and Denton counties before moving to Vernon in 1996 to become the district director for agriculture. In 2003, he was named the district administrator. Chandler also is a graduate of the two-year National Extension Leadership and Development program. 12/8/08 Date: 12/2/08 Advertisement
