15th Annual Tulsa Farm Show--A salute to production agricultureThe Tulsa Farm Show for 2008 will fill the QuikTrip Center with more exhibits than ever, and all the features and events that attendees have enjoyed over the years. Ron Bormaster, show manager, comments that "Over 300 exhibitors will fill the upper level (330,000 square feet) of the Expo Center as we make every effort to assure that the Tulsa Farm Show is a complete and unique salute to agriculture where active farmers and ranchers can evaluate agricultural products and services, pick up valuable information and enjoy a great time socializing with others involved in the industry." More than 1,000 agricultural products and services will be on display. This year, organizers have added a Hustler Mower ride and drive to the lower level of the QuikTrip Center joining the Oklahoma Simmental Simbrah Association private treaty bull sale. Everyone will be able to test drive a zero-turn mower and register to win a MiniFastrak Hustler from Sooner Distributing. Craig Cameron's Young Horse Training seminars and demonstrations, sponsored by Sutherlands, is a perennial favorite. Cameron is returning for his twelfth year at the show. Oklahoma State University will present the latest information on timely and relevant topics. Oklahoma Farm Bureau's presentation of Ag Safety Forums will run continuously all day in Booth #920. Wild Fire Safety, Home Preparedness for Emergencies, FBI Home Guard Safety, Alcohol and Preventative Drunk Driving Awareness will all be covered this year. The very popular livestock equipment demonstrations, sponsored by Linn Post & Pipe with their dealer, Reproduction Enterprises will be presented twice daily at the far west end of the QuikTrip Center. Chutes will be featured from Behlen, Cattlac, Morgan Livestock Equipment, Titan West, Stampede Steel, Moly Mfg. Silencer, Priefert, B BAR D, W-W Livestock, Powder River, Tartar Gate and Linn Post & Pipe. Cattle for the demonstrations and the scholarship competition are supplied by Tulsa Stockyards Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m., Francie Tolle, American Farmers & Ranchers Legislative Policy Political Analyst, will present a comprehensive informational meeting for everyone interested in discussing the ins and outs of the new farm bill. OSU Extension presenters will have two great programs for beef producers. Dec. 11 at 1 p.m., Dr. David Sparks will examine different methods and strategies for increasing calving percentage in an existing cow herd; and Dec. 12, Dr. Justin Talley will offer new concepts of beef cattle fly control. Emphasis will be given to new developments in the use of fly control ear tags. Ten, three-person teams from Perkins-Tryon, Pawnee, Oktaha, Dickson, Idabel, Crescent, Morrison, Crowder and Tipton, Oklahoma high schools will compete for honors and scholarships Dec. 12 at the all new Tulsa Farm Show for 2008. Midwest Shows president, John Riles, comments "To date, Midwest Shows Scholarship Programs, Inc., has awarded over $44,000 in post Secondary Ag Scholarships to Oklahoma high school students. This is an annual event here at the Tulsa Farm Show. We hope to encourage young people to continue the traditions of progressive farming and ranching that have made this country the most efficient producer of food for the world market." The Oklahoma Simmental Simbrah Association private treaty bull sale returns to the lower level of the QuikTrip Center and will see 50 or more head being shown this year. All of the bulls in the offering will be 12 to 24 months, current on all vaccinations, and have a current breeding soundness exam. Buyers can be confident in that the bulls in the offering are ready to go home and go to work. Bulls will be catalogued with pedigree and performance information as well as prices. Bulls will be sold first come, first served, and there will be trucking available. Information about the sale bulls will be available throughout the farm show, and detailed information will be available at all IPE Building entries and at the Oklahoma Simmental Simbrah Association Booth #122. Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom is a joint project of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Oklahoma State Department of Education, Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, 4-H Youth Development. The purpose of Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom is to help familiarize Oklahoma school children with Oklahoma's number one industry--the food and fiber industry. Be certain to visit this interesting display and try your hand at cow milking, one of the many hands-on activities featured this year. When Craig Cameron steps into the round pen, those attending get a rare combination of horse and common sense. Even the most experienced horse person will leave Cameron's clinic having learned something new. Cameron works with unridden horses at 10 a.m. daily, and other horsemanship issues from reining to trailer loading in his afternoon sessions. He is available throughout the day at the Sutherlands display at Booth #1008 where you can also register to win the round pen Cameron used during the show. The round pen winner will be drawn from all entries just prior to Cameron's final clinic Dec. 13 at approximately 2:20 p.m. Sensational prizes will be awarded Dec. 13, beginning at 11 a.m., during a live broadcast on KXBL and KVOO. The Grand Prize winners will drive away an Arctic Cat 366 ATV from Tulsa New Holland, or a John Deere L105 Lawn Tractor from P & K Equipment.
