Wind developers pledge money for school program

PIERRE, S.D. (AP)--The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission says two wind energy developers each have pledged $10,000 to support the South Dakota Wind for Schools program.

Babcock & Brown is developing a Wessington Springs wind farm, and Iberdrola Renewables is developing the MinnDakota and the Buffalo Ridge I wind farms, both in Brookings County.

The Wind for Schools program installs small wind turbines at participating schools.

Last summer, eight school districts were picked for the program: Sanborn Central, Douglas, Faith, Selby, Aberdeen, Elkton, Stanley County and Memorial Middle School in Sioux Falls. The first 1.8-kilowatt turbine was installed at Sanborn Central in Forestburg.
