Gill named associate department head for Texas AgriLife Extension Service

Texas

Dr. Ron Gill has been named associate department head for Texas AgriLife Extension Service in animal science.

Gill comes to College Station from Stephenville. He will be continuing work as a livestock specialist serving the northern part of Texas, as well as having statewide involvement with beef safety and quality assurance programs.

Gill replaces Dr. Pete Gibbs, who was promoted to AgriLife Extension associate director for agriculture, natural resources and community economic development.

"Ron is active in several national committees supporting the beef cattle industry and has strong working relationships with major beef cattle, meat and horse organizations in Texas," said Dr. Ed Smith, AgriLife Extension director. "Ron's leadership in these capacities will be very productive and progressive."

"The addition of Dr. Gill to our department leadership will enhance the direction and oversight of key program areas and continue a legacy of excellence in livestock education across Texas and the nation," said Dr. Gary Acuff, department head for animal science at Texas A&M University.

Gill serves on the advisory board for the integrated resource management subcommittee within the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.

He earned his doctorate from Texas A&M University and his bachelor's and master's degrees from Angelo State University.
