Colorado feeder cattle report

The Colorado Auction Feeder Cattle Summary, Greeley, Colo., Dec. 12, reported receipts of 9,484 head, compared to 5,394 head last week and 5,293 head last year, according to the USDA-Colorado Department of Agriculture Market News, Greeley, Colo.

Compared to last week, steer calves weighing under 500 pounds sold steady to $2 lower, over 500 pounds sold mostly $3 to $5 lower. Heifer calves sold mostly steady to $2 lower, $3 lower as the week progressed. Yearling feeder steers and heifers to o lightly tested this week to trend. Receipt numbers increased as many producers sell before holiday break. Buyer interest improved in lighter weight weaned calves. Several lots of weaned calves weighing over 600 pounds for this week's offerings. The supply was made up of 59% feeder steers, 40% feeder heifers, and the balance was feeder bulls, with about 50% of total feeder supply over 600 pounds.
