Amarillo livestock salesThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 563 head Dec. 16, compared to 355 head last week and 749 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, there were not enough of any class on offer to make an adequate market price trend comparison. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows made up 3% of the offering, slaughter bulls 3%, replacement cows 1% and feeders 93%. The feeder supply included 50% steers and bulls and 50% heifers, with approximately 52% of the run weighed over 600 pounds. The next auction will be Jan. 6, 2009. Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 367 lbs., 108.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 103.00; lot 529 lbs., 90.00, package 580 lbs., full 82.00; load 696 lb. calves 87.00; package 780 lbs., 84.00; package 896 lbs., 85.50.
