AgriLife Extension's South Plains District announces four new hires

Texas

Texas AgriLife Extension Service's South Plains district has announced the following four personnel appointments within the 22-county district.

--Mandi Seaton, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent for Lamb County, effective Jan. 1.

--Dustin Patman, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent for Crosby and Floyd counties, effective Jan. 1.

--Scott Adair, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources for Hale County, effective Feb. 1.

--Tyler Hawthorne, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources for Crosby County, effective Feb. 1.

"These four individuals are proof-positive that the South Plains district is maintaining its tradition of hiring what we feel are the best and brightest," said Jett Major, AgriLife Extension administrator at Lubbock. "Mandi was just notified that she will be receiving a 2008 Superior Service Award in January, one of the highest honors AgriLife Extension has. She is also a Florence Hall Award winner which is another top honor for family and consumer sciences agents."

Hawthorne was the top student in the college of agriculture at West Texas A&M University this past year and Adair worked as a research assistant under Dr. John Gannaway and Dr. Terry Wheeler here in the Plains Cotton Improvement Program while he completed masters level studies at Texas Tech.

Rounding out the list is Patman who interned with AgriLife Extension entomologist Brant Baugh in Lubbock. He also completed an integrated pest management internship in Ellis County.

"We are very fortunate to have these fine agents compliment the South Plains district, and we look forward to the teamwork and ideas they will provide," Major said.

Seaton earned a master's degree in agricultural education and a bachelor's degree in home economics from Texas Tech University. Before accepting her new job, she was the AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Bailey County.

Patman holds a bachelor's in agricultural services and development from Tarleton State University and a master's from West Texas A&M University.

He has worked within the Texas A&M System in a variety of entomology-related posts including fly toxicology work, assisting with field days and demonstration work and serving as a cotton scout in Ellis and Navarro counties.

Adair, a two-time Texas Tech University graduate, holds a master's in agronomy and a bachelor's in wildlife management. He brings to his new appointment years of experience farming and working in the agricultural industry's private sector.

Adair has worked for Delta and Pine Land Company in Lubbock and in Mississippi in jobs ranging from assistant international research coordinator to operations division, area production manager. He has also worked as a wildlife technician for both Texas A&M and Texas Tech Universities.

Hawthorne, a West Texas A&M University graduate, has served for several years as an adult 4-H and FFA volunteer in Randall and Lynn counties. While attending college he was the manager of the school's Beef Carcass Research Center and Meat Lab. He was also on the president's honor roll during his last three years at the university and was named the top student in the West Texas A&M University college of agriculture in 2007.
