Wolf killed after killing sheep

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP)--Federal officials have killed one wolf and is searching for a second believed responsible for killing sheep and a goat north of Reed Point.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services officials tracked and shot an adult female wolf Nov. 28 about five miles from where wolves have killed 20 sheep and a goat in seven incidents on two ranches over the past two months.

Because the wolves were preying on livestock, the state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks issued permits to the ranchers in November to kill two wolves. After federal officials killed the female wolf, the ranchers' permits were amended to allow them to remove one more wolf.
