MGGA elects officers, sets policy direction for 2009

Montana

At the conclusion of this year's annual convention in Great Falls, the Montana Grain Growers Association elected officers, installed new board members and set the organization's policy for 2009. These actions put the finishing touches on a successful 53rd Annual MGGA Convention attended by over 600 farmers, agribusiness representatives and guests.

Bing Von Bergen, a grain producer from Moccasin, was installed as MGGA president for 2009. Elected as vice president was Keven Bradley of Cut Bank. Other officers are treasurer, Gordon Stoner of Outlook, and secretary, Brian Eggebrecht of Malta. Will Roehm of Great Falls will serve as past president.

Newly elected to the MGGA board of directors are Ryan Fast, Glasgow, representing District 2; Dan Appelt, Polson, from District 7; and Randy Wolenetz, Baker, from District 14. Directors re-elected to serve another term on the board are Keven Bradley, Cut Bank--District 6; Curt Diehl, Townsend--District 8; Pete Rebish, Dillon--District 8; Tony Zinne, Ryegate--District 10 and Bret Conover, Broadview--District 12.

"I'm looking forward to leading the organization over the coming year and working closely with the board and membership," stated Bing Von Bergen, newly-elected MGGA president. "We've got a lot of work in front of us, including farm bill implementation, crop insurance reform and rail mediation for our wheat and barley producers. We'll also be spending some time in Helena at the 2009 MT Legislative Session and continue our work on conservation programs and carbon market opportunities."

A primary focus of the convention is approval by the membership of the organization's policy positions for the coming year. These resolutions guide MGGA , its leadership and staff on a myriad of issues that directly affect the livelihood of wheat and barley producers. "Our membership has given us clear direction," Von Bergen added, "and we'll do our best to deliver."
