Pfizer Cattlemen's College schedule announced for Montana Stockgrowers Association convention

Montana

The Montana Stockgrowers Association's 124th Annual Trade Show and Convention, to be held Dec. 11 to 13 at the Billings Holiday Inn Grand Montana, will feature four unique Pfizer "Cattlemen's Colleges." Convention attendees will have the opportunity to attend two of the four colleges, held Dec. 13 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The colleges offer convention attendees a chance to learn important information about working and living in the livestock industry.

John Paterson, PhD, will present "Five Ways to Cut Expenses and Five Areas that We Will Not Cut: Results of a Rancher Survey." Paterson is the Extension Beef Specialist for Montana State University and focuses his research on understanding ruminant nutrition.

Clint Peck, director of Montana Beef Quality Assurance, will present "Proper BQA Practices." Peck has worked to standardize BQA efforts nationwide. This effort has resulted in increased industry-wide attention to BQA practices and increased funding for state BQA programs from national beef checkoff sources. Participants will have the opportunity to qualify their ranch for BQA certification.

The Montana Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative will present a panel on Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations and Animal Feeding Operations with an emphasis on how ranchers can work to fit CAFO/AFO regulations into their operations. Panelists will include representatives from Natural Resources Conservation Service, Montana State Department of Environmental Quality, Montana State University Extension, a livestock producer and will be moderated by Gene Surber.

Karl Bareither, a wealth transfer specialist, will present "A Holistic Family Model for Planning a Family and Business Legacy." Bareither is founder and president of Family Business Renewal System, Inc., a family business planning firm that uses a holistic process approach to transfer wealth and renew both business and family.

The Cattlemen's Colleges would not be possible without the generous support of Pfizer Animal Health. For more information on MSGA's 124th Annual Convention and Trade Show, or to register, please call the office at 406-442-3420.
