MGGA Annual Convention--Ag industry "meets outside the bin"

Montana

Join Montana producers and agribusiness partners at the 53rd Annual Montana Grain Growers Association Convention and Trade Show at the Heritage Inn in Great Falls, on Dec. 2 to 4. After a year of volatile markets, weather variances, pest problems and high input costs, this is the place to ask your questions and get some answers.

The Dec. 2 pre-convention workshop with Dr. Alan Blaylock of Agrium US and Ed Usset from the Minnesota Center for Farm Financial Management jump right into where producers have been hurt most this year, and that's in the pocketbook. Blaylock's worldwide expertise in the fertilizer industry is invaluable when explaining the industry to producers, and leaves them with answers when planning next year's crop. Ed Usset's marketing workshop is jammed with sound marketing advice. Thousands of farmers in 15 states have already attended his workshops, coming away with comments such as, "It is a must for every ag producer."

Dr. Tom Morgan, the Dec. 3 keynote speaker, will rally producers to stand up to the bad rap ag has been given in the media. You may find yourself amazed at some of the things the media has been saying. Louise Gartner, the Dec. 4 keynote speaker and founder of Spectrum Commodities, will show how historic events have affected major players in the world markets and what the near term outlook could be. She will cover supply-demand statistics and issues and give a snapshot of events in the market and marketing patterns.

Modeled around educating producers, the MGGA convention continues with our Pro Producer Education sessions. These sessions always receive high marks because of their cutting-edge subject matter presented by hands-on professionals. This year's slate of speakers will touch on subjects ranging from the 2008 farm bill to wheat stem sawfly, fertilizer use, oil and wind contracts, precision ag, carbon credits, biofuels, railroads, wheat markets, and more.

Most importantly, this is the time of year MGGA members make policy decisions for the coming year, starting with committee meetings Dec. 3 and finalizing on Dec. 4 with the general resolutions session.

Last year's Wheat PAC live auction was so much fun, and such a successful fund-raiser, we're bringing it back again Dec. 3. This year, though, along with pizza and beer, Monte (UofM's mascot) and Champ (MSU's mascot) join the festivities. You'll get a firsthand look at what happens when the two mascots meet head-to-head.

Our trade show runs throughout the convention and features 54 exhibitor booths from ag industry professionals. This is a great opportunity to visit with exhibitors and sponsors about what they have to offer your business and to thank them for their ongoing support of MGGA. Check out our entire agenda online at www.mgga.org and make plans now to attend this year's event.
