Iowa Farm Bureau announces new government relations staffIowa Iowa Farm Bureau Federation is proud to announce two changes to its government relations staff. Mark Salvador has been appointed the Federation's state policy advisor, and former IFBF regional manager Marty Schwager will replace Salvador as national policy advisor. Salvador will help coordinate state legislative efforts and promote Farm Bureau initiatives with the Iowa Legislature. He will also work with county Farm Bureau campaign committees and the IFBF Political Action Committee. Schwager will work with Iowa's congressional delegation and federal agencies on issues that affect Iowa's farmers. He also will work with county Farm Bureaus on national issues and coordinate Iowa Farm Bureau's activities with the American Farm Bureau in Washington, D.C. "We are very excited to have Mark join our state policy team and Marty move to our national policy position," said Don Petersen, IFBF director of government relations. "Both Mark and Marty bring exceptional knowledge and experience to their new positions, and I'm confident they'll do an outstanding job of serving our members' needs." Salvador brings four years of experience in IFBF's research department and, most recently, three years as the Federation's national policy advisor to the job. Before coming to Farm Bureau, he worked in research for Cargill's Oilseed Research division in Fort Collins, Colo. Salvador earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural business and a master of science degree in agriculture and resource economics from Colorado State University. The Colorado native grew up on an irrigated row-crop and small grains farm and still farms with his father in northeast Colorado. Prior to accepting this position, Schwager was a regional manager for IFBF for three and a half years. He has also served the Iowa Pork Producers Association, working in producer education for 12 years. The past president of the Clive Chamber of Commerce and recipient of the ISU Friend of Extension award grew up on a crop and livestock farm in eastern Iowa and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Iowa State University. Both Salvador and Schwager begin their new roles at Farm Bureau on Nov. 1.
