Romero to lead diversity effort for Texas A&M AgriLife Human ResourcesTexas
Dr. Edward Romero has been named director of diversity for Texas A&M AgriLife, according to Dr. Mark Hussey, interim vice chancellor of agriculture and life sciences. Hussey said the position, which is administratively located in AgriLife Human Resources in College Station, was created to help ensure "work environments where all people feel welcome and engaged." Romero was assistant dean for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences since 2003 and had been director of the college's Office of Student Diversity from 2005-2007. In his new position, Romero will help develop the AgriLife diversity brand, strategy and platform, Hussey said. He is expected to organize a diversity council, seek diverse applicants for positions, develop programming and training for employees and ensure diversity messages are included in communications. Romero has worked on diversity for a number of years. In his positions at Texas A&M, he developed numerous models and courses on the issue, including AgForLife, a trademarked two-dimensional model to explain opportunities in agriculture, food and life sciences to help educate the general public about career potential. He also developed the minority recruitment and leadership course for the college and a special topics course aimed at retaining students with academic deficiencies. He obtained a bachelor's in agricultural economics and business in 1991 and a master's in agricultural and Extension education in 1991, both from New Mexico State University. He earned his doctorate in agricultural education in 2008 from Texas A&M. Romero also held positions with New Mexico State University, the New Mexico Department of Agriculture and the Western Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. ------CUTLINE------ Dr. Edward Romero, director of diversity for Texas A&M AgriLife. 8/4/08 Date: 7/31/08 Advertisement
