Pork Council names Hudgens state champion

Oklahoma


Ben Hudgens of the Burlington FFA Chapter was named the 2008 Overall Champion for Oklahoma Pork Council Speech Contest.

For the third consecutive year, Ben Hudgens of the Burlington FFA Chapter was named the Oklahoma Pork Council State Champion Public Speaker.

Hudgens presented his speech entitled "Pork--The Honest Truth," which included new marketing technologies used to promote natural pork products, to a group of judges in Stillwater, Okla. He was selected as winner of the Sr. FFA division and earned the right to compete in the overall finals. Also competing in the overall finals was Samantha Smith of Burlington FFA who received first place in the Jr. FFA Division. Burlington 4-H member Bayli Hyde placed 2nd in the Jr. 4-H Division.

After the final round of judging was completed, Hudgens was named as the overall champion. He received $200 and will be the guest speaker at the Oklahoma Pork Congress in February at Oklahoma City. Public speaking in nothing new to this Burlington FFA member as Hudgens was named State Champion in Oklahoma Farmers Union speech contest and was chairman of the 2007 State Champion Junior FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team from Burlington.

Just recently Brandon Baumgarten of the Oilton FFA Won the Youth for Pork Speech Contest- july 16. His speech was over the H1N1'S effect on pork producers. Public Speaking is nothing new for this FFA member. He chaired the Opening Ceremonies Team, was State Runner- Up at the AFR State Speech Finals and was a State Finalist in Agribusiness in Spring of '09.
