Newell sheep sales reportThe St. Onge-Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., July 31, reported receipts of 1,369 head of sheep, compared to 783 head last week and 2,223 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last sale, slaughter lambs were lightly tested, but not enough to develop a trend. Feeder lambs sold steady to weak. Buyer attendance was moderate, with moderate demand. Slaughter ewes sold steady. The supply consisted of 2% slaughter lambs, 17% slaughter ewes, and 81% feeder lambs. Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Good 1 to 2, 13 head, 106 lbs., 86.50 blackface; 11 head, 111 lbs., 77.50 buck lambs. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 167 to 184 lbs., 20.50 to 21.75 (21.17). Utility 1 to 2, Medium fleshed, 142 to 151 lbs., 16.75 to 18.25 (17.60); 9 head, 177 lbs., 18.75. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, thin to medium fleshed, 23 head, 145 lbs., 12.75. Cull 1, thin, 10 head, 120 to 133 lbs., 1.50 to 3.75 (2.90). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 85 to 87 lbs., 101.25 to 105.50 (102.86); 91 to 97 lbs., 105.00 to 106.00 (105.89); 12 head, 95 lbs., 94.00 ewe lambs; 101 to 104 lbs., 102.00 to 106.25 (104.87).
