McAlester livestock sales reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market , McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,200 head July 29, compared to 2,100 head last week and 1,750 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, number 1 stocker and feeder cattle were steady to $2 lower. Fleshy new crop calves were $3 to $6 lower with these being the majority of trade. Extreme heat in the forecast for the next several days making interest in light cattle moderate at best. Few attractive cattle in the trade. Receipts included 48% steers, 44% heifers, 9% bulls with 33% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls firm with last week. Good attendance of buyers and active trade. A total of 285 cows and bulls sold with 60% to packers.
