Ft. Smith livestock sales reportThe Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 745 head July 28, compared to 722 head last sale and 1,078 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark. Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter cows were $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $3 lower. The supply included 400 feeder calves, 266 feeder yearlings, 16 replacement cows, 53 slaughter cows, 11 slaughter bulls, and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 70% steers and bulls with 30% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 52.00 to 56.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 61.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.50; low dressing, 44.00 to 48.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 57.00 to 61.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 66.00; low dressing, 52.00 to 56.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 69.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 78.00.
