Dodge City cattle sales

Dodge City Winter Livestock, Inc., Dodge City, KS, reported receipts of 3,108 head, July 23, compared to 3,256 last week and 2,701 last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City.

Compared with last week, steers at 700 to 950 pounds were firm to $1.50 higher, with full advance on those at 800 to 900 pounds with thin flesh and favorable weighing conditions. Heifers at 700 to 900 pounds were not enough for a market test, and a few sales were firm; steers and heifers at 700 pounds and under were steady in a very limited supply. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm to $2 higher. Trade was active and demand was good. Receipts were 78 percent 600 pounds and over, 14 percent 600 pounds and under, and 8 percent slaughter cows and bulls with 261 head, selling early. The feeder supply was 90 percent steers and 10 percent heifers.

Cows with calves at side: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, short solid to broken mouth, 20 head, 1202 lbs., with 225- to 275-lb. calves, 1060.00. Medium and large frame 2, broken mouth, 5 head, 1172 lbs., with 225- to 275-lb. calves, 860.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80 percent lean, 64.50 to 66.00; low dressing, 62.00. Boners, 80 to 85 percent lean, 61.00 to 64.75; high dressing, 66.00 to 67.50. Lean, 85 to 90 percent lean, 56.00 to 63.50; high dressing, 64.00 to 66.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 55.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 74.00 to 78.00, high dressing, 80.00 to 82.00; low dressing, 67.00 to 72.50.
