Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Aug. 16, totaled 6,100 head, compared to 11,000 head last week and 1,700 head last year, according to the USDA-Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested at Wyoming auctions. Direct trading was moderate. Comparable steer and heifer sales were steady. Buyer inquiry and demand were light to moderate for moderate offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices were current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 90% of the supply, heifers 10%, with 94% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 6000 head of the total receipts. Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, none. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 530 lbs., 125.00 October/November; 775 lbs., 112.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 114.00 September; 875 lbs., 875 lbs., 112.50 October; 925 lbs., 113.50; 975 to 1000 lbs., 108.25 to 109.50; 1000 lbs., 104.50 September. Delivered price, 840 lbs., 113.25 to 115.40; 925 lbs., 114.25. Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1 660 lbs., 105.00; 740 lbs., 104.50. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 840 to 875 lbs., 106.00 to 107.00; 950 lbs., 106.00. Delivered price, 810 to 880 lbs., 107.00 to 111.25.
