USDA to measure year-end production for Oklahoma small grains

Oklahoma

The impact of the challenges faced in Oklahoma and across the Nation with the adverse weather conditions and availability of grains and oilseeds for food, will be measured in September when the U.S. Department of Agriculture collects final year-end production numbers for small grains. The Oklahoma Field Office will contact nearly 2,400 producers Statewide as part of the September Agricultural Survey.

"The September Agricultural Survey is the annual survey for preparing final USDA estimates of acreage, yield and production on all small grain commodities for the 2008 crop year," explained Wilbert Hundl, Jr. Director of the USDA-NASS Oklahoma Field Office.

During the first two weeks of September, NASS will contact selected Oklahoma producers by mail or telephone and ask them to provide information on their 2008 production and on-farm stocks of wheat, oats and rye. The information will be compiled and analyzed and then published in a series of USDA reports, including the annual Small Grains summary and quarterly Grain Stocks report, both to be released Sept. 30 at 7:30 a.m., CST.

"Federal law Title 7, U.S. Code, Section 2276, and the Confidential Information Protection and Statistical Efficiency Act, require NASS to keep all responses to this survey strictly confidential. Data collected is only used to provide aggregated totals for Oklahoma estimates," stated Hundl.

All reports are available at www.nass.usda.gov. For more information on NASS surveys and reports, call the NASS Oklahoma Field Office at 1-888-525-9226.
