Tulsa livestock sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 3,136 head Aug. 18, compared to 2,070 head last week and 1,525 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $3 to $5 higher. Feeder cattle were steady. Demand was very good for light calves and good for other classes along with good attendance of buyers. Weigh-ups were mostly average with a few full. There was a higher incidence of No. 1 quality cattle. Receipts included 42% steers, 45% heifers, 13% bulls, with 22% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady with very good demand on lean cows. A total of 497 cows and bulls sold with 68% going to packers.

Light, 80 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 975 lbs., 49.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 44.50 to 48.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 40 head, 1200 to 2305 lbs., 72.50 to 76.00; high dressing, 77.00 to 78.50; low dressing, 68.50 to 72.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 6 months bred, average, 785.00 to 875.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 to 7 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., with 150- to 200-lb. calves, average, 1030.00 to 1200.00.
