Sioux Falls sheep salesThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,403 head Aug. 19, compared to 1,115 head last week and 1,129 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold $3 to $5 lower. Slaughter ewes too few last week for a true comparison however, a higher undertone was noted. Feeder lambs lacking the bloom and freshness of last week's offering sold mostly $2 to $4 lower. The receipts included about 45% slaughter lambs, 23% slaughter ewes, 24% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Buyer attendance moderate with moderate to good demand. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 136 to 145 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00 (101.21); 133 head, 154 lbs., 101.50. Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 11 head, 136 lbs., 87.75. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 144 to 148 lbs., 98.00 to 100.00 (98.61); 101 head, 152 lbs., 98.25 full. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 36 head, 124 lbs., 92.00; 133 to 134 lbs., 93.00 to 97.00 (95.33). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 8 head, 165 lbs., 26.50; 5 head, 196 lbs., 36.00 gaunt. Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 13 head, 213 to 229 lbs., 23.00 to 29.00 (27.68). Utility 1 to 2, medium fleshed, 156 to 159 lbs., 16.75 to 18.50 (17.09); 161 to 169 lbs., 16.25 to 19.75 (17.00). Cull 1, thin, 117 to 143 lbs., 11.25 to 15.00 (14.20); 15 head, 113 to 116 lbs., 11.75 to 14.00 (13.26). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 20 head, 53 to 55 lbs., 92.00 to 93.00 (92.34); 34 head, 72 lbs., 96.00; 6 head, 81 lbs., 93.50; 104 to 107 lbs., 90.00 to 92.50 (90.44); 113 to 118 lbs., 87.50 to 93.00 (90.08).
