Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,012 head Aug. 14, compared to 1,369 head two weeks ago and 3,078 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to two weeks ago, a light supply of slaughter lambs were on offer, but not enough to develop a trend. Slaughter lamb quality was less attractive. There was a heavy supply of feeder lambs on offer. Feeder lambs sold mostly $6 to $7 lower. Buyer attendance was light with light demand. Slaughter ewes sold mostly steady. The supply consisted of 1% slaughter lambs, 12% slaughter ewes, and 87% feeder lambs. Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Good 1 to 2, 6 head, 114 lbs., 92.00; 20 head, 116 to 118 lbs., 80.00 to 80.50 (80.30) blackface. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 171 to 191 lbs., 17.00 to 23.50 (22.14). Utility 1 to 2, Medium flesh, 58 head, 143 lbs., 12.00; 8 head, 175 lbs., 13.00. Cull 1, thin, 21 head, 130 lbs., 3.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 155 head, 76 lbs., 94.00; 8 head, 77 lbs., 83.00 blackface; 84 to 89 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00 (94.99); 92 to 97 lbs., 94.50 to 100.00 (98.37); 101 to 109 lbs., 95.50 to 99.75 (98.53); 118 to 125 lbs., 100.00 to 100.25 (100.10).
