KARL Sporting Clays Benefit scheduled Sept. 20 for Flint Oak

Kansas

If September 2008 is anything like last year, 6,000 shotgun blasts will fill the fall air in Elk County during the 7th Annual KARL Sporting Clays Benefit at Flint Oak near Fall River, Kan. The benefit will be held Sept. 20.

The event is designed to bring hunting and shooting sports enthusiasts together to benefit the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program, a non-profit educational organization that builds rural leadership. Flint Oak's sporting clays course is designed to replicate every conceivable shot encountered in the field from a covey rise of quail to geese settling onto a lake, according to KARL president Jack Lindquist. Other favorite stations include the Fur & Feather, Crossing Woodcocks, and the Pheasant Flush.

Flint Oak holds a five-star rating from the National Association of Shooting Ranges--the association's highest honor.

Potential competitors can call 785-532-6300 to request registration forms or visit the KARL Program website, http:///www.karlprogram.com, to print and mail the forms.

Pre-registration is required. The form is due with the benefit fee of $125 for a single, $475 for a team of four by Sept. 7, and $500 after Sept. 7. The 100 shot fee does not include equipment, but does include the clays, services and a steak awards dinner. Participants must provide their own shotgun and shells, as well as eye and ear protection. Rentals and supplies are available at the lodge clubhouse gift shop.

Net proceeds benefit the KARL Leadership Program, a two-year program offering intensive study, training and travel for future leaders in agriculture and rural communities. Prospective donors who cannot attend, but wish to support KARL can send contributions to KARL, 101 Umberger Hall, Manhattan KS, 66506 or call the KARL office at 785-532-6300 to request more information.

Those interested in applying for KARL Class X (2009-2011) can also access an application at the website.
