Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 1,167 head Aug. 18, compared to 848 head last week and 817 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $3 to $5 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were $3 to $5 lower. The supply included 620 feeder calves, 337 feeder yearlings, 30 replacement cows, 162 slaughter cows, 18 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 60% steers and bulls with 40% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 50.00 to 55.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 63.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 68.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 64.00 to 67.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 306 to 335 lbs., 120.00 to 127.50 (125.89); 400 to 445 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00 (111.94); 450 to 485 lbs., 108.00 to 116.00 (110.66); 500 to 548 lbs., 105.00 to 112.00 (107.29); 550 to 598 lbs., 105.00 to 112.00 (107.12); 600 to 645 lbs., 102.00 to 112.00 (105.94); 650 to 695 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00 (104.37); 703 to 710 lbs., 99.00 to 107.00 (102.83). Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 600 to 950 lbs., open cows, 68.00 to 86.00; 4 to 7 years old, 900 to 1400 lbs., open cows 55.00 to 60.00; 7+ years old, 800 to 1100 lbs., open cows, 45.00 to 47.50; 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., second stage, 54.00 to 62.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 6 years old, 850 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 600.00 to 850.00 per pair.
