Dodge City cattle sales report

Dodge City Winter Livestock, Inc., reported receipts of 2,423 head Aug. 13, compared to 2,180 head last week and 2,036 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers weighing 300 to 600 pounds and heifers at 350 to 600 pounds were steady on a light test. Steers at 600 to 1050 pounds were steady to $3 higher, the bulk of the trade was steady $2 higher. Heifers at 600 to 850 pounds were steady to $1 higher on a light test. Trade and demand was good. Slaughter cows were weak to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls firm to $1 higher. Receipts included 77% over 600 pounds, 10% under 600 pounds and 13% slaughter cows and bulls with 253 head, early. The feeder supply consisted of 53% steers and 47% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 61.00 to 66.00; individual 67.50; low dressing, 55.50 to 60.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 56.00 to 63.00; high dressing, 63.50 to 65.50; low dressing, 42.50 to 55.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 73.50 to 80.00; high dressing, 83.50 to 85.50; low dressing, 56.00 to 72.50.
