David City, Curtis youths awarded scholarships at NAYINebraska Nebraska Department of Agriculture Director Greg Ibach is pleased to announce that, during the 37th Annual Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute, two delegates were awarded scholarships for their leadership skills and commitment to agriculture as demonstrated during this year's conference. Chase Holoubek of David City and Eva LiaKos of Curtis were each awarded a $600 scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska's College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources (UNL CASNR) for the 2008-2009 academic year. "We were impressed with the quality of students that attended NAYI this year. We hope that these scholarships will assist the winners as they pursue their future agricultural educational goals," said Ibach. "We are also appreciative of the University's willingness to sponsor these scholarships." Chase Holoubek is the son of Mark and Willow Holoubek of David City. He is involved in 4-H and plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources. Holoubek is a recent graduate of David City Aquinas High School. Eva LiaKos is the daughter of Norm and Pat LiaKos of Curtis. She is involved in FFA and plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources majoring in agri-business. LiaKos is a recent graduate of Medicine Valley High School. This marked the eighth year the scholarships, sponsored by CASNR, were awarded. Holoubek and LiaKos were selected by members of the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council based upon their leadership skills, interest in agriculture, and the good example they provided to the NAYI delegates throughout the five-day conference. Approximately 130 high school juniors and seniors from across Nebraska gathered for NAYI at the University of Nebraska campus from July 13 to 17. They discussed agricultural policy, heard motivational speakers, and participated in a simulated farm management program. Delegates were selected to attend NAYI based on their interest in Nebraska agriculture and their leadership skills. The NAYI program is coordinated by the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council, comprised of 15 college-aged men and women selected by NDA. 8/25/08 Date: 8/19/08
