Dalhart livestock sales report

The Cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,812 head Aug. 14, compared to 2,013 head last week and 1,016 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were firm to $2 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply was Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 17% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, replacement cows 3%, and feeders 78%. The feeder supply included 57% steers and 43% heifers, with nearly 12% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, two packages 280 to 283 lbs., 146.00 to 153.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 146.00 to 150.00, 350 to 400 lbs., 139.00 to 143.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 119.00 to 124.00, package 415 lbs., pre-conditioned 130.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 114.50 to 119.00; two packages 537 to 540 lbs., pre-conditioned 120.00 to 124.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 115.50 to 118.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 112.00 to 113.50, load 725 lbs., fancy 116.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 269 lbs., pre-conditioned 153.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 130.00 to 139.00, 350 to 400 lbs., 121.00 to 125.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 117.00 to 121.00, package 598 lbs., 108.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00. Medium and large frame 2, two packages 384 to 385 lbs., 111.00 to 121.00. Medium and large frame 3, 300 to 400 lbs., 101.00 to 104.00; package 402 lbs., 90.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 200 to 300 lbs., 122.00 to 125.00, two lots 245 to 274 lbs., pre-conditioned 141.00 to 143.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 116.00 to 122.00; few 400 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 109.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.50 to 108.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 106.50 to 108.00; package 737 lbs., 104.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 104.50 to 108.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 271 lbs., pre-conditioned 129.00; load 355 lbs., pre-conditioned 118.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 109.00; package 545 lbs., 101.00; few 600 to 700 lbs., 103.50 to 104.00. Medium and large frame 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 106.00 to 110.00. Medium and large frame 3, package 245 lbs., 103.50; 300 to 400 lbs., 91.00 to 100.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1400 lbs., 62.50 to 63.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 55.00 to 62.00; high dressing, 64.00 to 64.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 55.50 to 61.50; high dressing, 63.50 to 64.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 2000 lbs., 82.00 to 88.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 900 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, 760.00 to 880.00 per head; young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 885.00 to 1035.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 850 to 1200 lbs., with 50- to 300-lb. calves, 940.00 to 1300.00 per pair; middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1000 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 835.00 to 925.00 per pair.
