CFB recognizes top state legislatorsColorado Colorado Farm Bureau, the state's largest agricultural organization, has announced the recipients of its 2008 Pinnacle Award. This award is given in recognition of support on legislation that was vital to the Colorado agriculture community and is the highest award given to legislators by the Colorado Farm Bureau. "The Pinnacle Award recognizes those legislators who go above and beyond the call of duty to protect and promote Colorado's agricultural interests," said Alan Foutz, Colorado Farm Bureau president. "This is evident through their sponsorship and co-sponsorship of bills, their leadership in advocating on behalf of Colorado agriculture, and their voting record on Farm Bureau priority issues." The four Pinnacle award winners are: Colorado State Senate: --Senator Jim Isgar, D-Hesperus; --Senator Josh Penry, R-Grand Junction; Colorado State House of Representatives: --Representative Kathleen Curry, D-Gunnison; --Representative Marsha Looper, R-Calhan. "Colorado Farm Bureau is proud to recognize these legislators who have done an exemplary job working and voting on issues that are important to farmers and ranchers," said Foutz. In addition, Colorado Farm Bureau recognized 23 legislators as "Friends of Farm Bureau" based on their voting average, bill sponsorship, and willingness to work with CFB on legislation. Members of the 66th General Assembly who have been designated as a Friend of Farm Bureau are: Senators Bacon, Boyd, Gibbs, Isgar, Penry, Tapia and Tochtrop; and Representatives Benefield, Borodkin, Buescher, Curry, Gallegos, Cory Gardner, Hodge, Looper, Massey, Roberts, Solano, Sonnenberg, Todd, Vaad, White and Witwer. Throughout the 2007-2008 legislative sessions, Colorado Farm Bureau tracked more than 150 bills relating to issues important to agriculture such as animal welfare, water rights, guest worker programs, and private property rights. "We applaud the willingness of all the recognized legislators who fought and continue to fight for farmers and ranchers," said Foutz. "Because of their strong working relationship and commitment to this industry, agriculture has a greater opportunity for success." 8/25/08 Date: 8/19/08
