Beardsley-Choat to serve as coordinator of Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition

Nebraska

The Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition announced it has contracted with Tamara Beardsley-Choat to serve as coordinator of the producer-based stewardship group.

The Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition is an independent organization of ranchers, interest groups, and agencies whose mission is to collaborate with landowners, agencies, and other associations to implement programs that improve the management and health of Nebraska grazing lands to ensure long-term stability of rangeland and pasture resources.

A native of Miles City, Mont., Beardsley-Choat grew up on a fourth-generation family cow-calf ranch, and previously worked as communications coordinator for the Montana Stockgrowers Association in Helena, Mont., and as events marketing manager for Krause Publications in Iola, Wis.

Jim Carr, a rancher from Burwell, Neb., and chairman of the Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition, said, "Tamara brings a strong background in organizational communications to this position, but she also has lifelong experience in ranching and a passion for promoting sustainable stewardship and our way of life."

Beardsley-Choat's primary duties will include developing a voluntary steward mentor program, implementing grazing lands workshops and tours across the state, and promoting public education and awareness of the value of Nebraska's grasslands. She will also serve as the Nebraska representative of the national Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative of the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Beardsley-Choat can be contacted at 402-430-3656 or tamara@nebraskagrazinglands.org.

The Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition is entirely grant funded through the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund, the Nebraska Rural Development Commission and the Sandhills Task Force.
