Arkansas livestock summary report

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending Aug. 14, showed estimated receipts of 9,960 head, compared to 7,380 head last week and 8,730 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls sold nearly steady. Feeders sold firm to $3 higher. The supply consisted of 5,425 stocker and feeder calves, 2,875 feeder yearlings, 450 replacement cows, 1,070 slaughter cows and 140 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 44% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 51.00 to 57.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 63.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 52.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 67.50; low dressing, 46.00 to 52.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 46.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 38.00 to 46.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 36.00 to 44.00; low dressing, 28.00 to 36.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 65.00 to 73.00; high dressing, 73.00 to 83.00; low dressing, 57.00 to 65.00.
