Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Aug. 9, totaled 11,010 head, compared to 6,500 head last week and 6,850 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

This was the first good test of feeder steers and heifers at Wyoming auctions since spring. No good price comparison was available. Demand was good. Direct trading was moderate to active. Comparable sales were steady. Buyer inquiry and demand were light to moderate for moderate offerings. Some interest was noted for fall contracting of cattle. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 74% of the supply, heifers 26%, with 94% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 9585 head of the total receipts.

Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, calves 710 lbs., 113.00 November; 750 lbs., 117.00; 810 to 870 lbs., 109.00 to 112.00; 940 to 975 lbs., 108.00 to 109.50; 925 lbs., 108.50 to 109.00 August/September; 925 lbs., 109.00 October. Delivered price, calves 625 lbs., 115.00 October; 835 lbs., 115.75; 840 lbs., 109.00 August/September; 925 lbs., 112.35 September.

Heifers: Auctions: Medium and large frame 1 230 lbs., 122.00; 280 to 295 lbs., 126.00 to 133.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 121.00 to 131.00; 400 to 420 lbs., 110.00 to 113.00; 470 to 485 lbs., 105.50 to 109.00; 665 to 665 lbs., 105.00 to 108.50; 750 to 785 lbs., 104.25 to 110.50; 825 to 840 lbs., 104.00 to 108.25; 930 to 950 lbs., 102.00 to 104.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 715 lbs., 109.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 800 lbs., 108.00; 725 lbs., 110.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 108.00 to 108.50 September.
